Common Name: Spotted Moray

Latin Name: Gymnothorax Moringa

 

Where you can see them here: These eels can be seen at all the sites in holes, rocks and under ledges. Barracuda has a large resident spotted moray which is always in a particular coral head.

 

How to identify them: A medium sized moray, it can reach up to 4 feet in length with light body and distinct dark speckles and spots all over it with solid black line all along dorsal fin. Often you may only see the tip of a tail or the side of it’s body when it is curled in rocky rubble. But other times you see the head and they are often curious of divers.

What you may not know about them: They constantly open and close mouth. This is not a threatening action it is necessary for the eels respiration.
